Cynthia Stafford was born and raised in San Diego, California.  Daughter to a mother who enjoyed the arts, she spent countless hours drawing from the time she could remember.  She drew ladies in high fashion, athletes from the Olympics and cartoon characters from the shows she watched.  Her talent for drawing was nurtured and encouraged by both her parents, friends and teachers.

Her dream was to one day go to art school and study commercial art and illustration.  However, that dream came to an abrupt stop when Cynthia was critically injured in a car accident.  She was just 18 years old. With internal injuries as well as a fractured and dislocated spine, she spent the next two years enduring spinal fusions, body braces and recovering from her extensive injuries.

Although she did not receive a formal education in the arts, she continued her studies by taking independent classes in life drawing and painting.

The medium of Clay and the craft of sculpting was introduced to Cynthia when after noticing her ability in 2D work, she was invited to create sculpted pieces for Living Stone Inc., an animal figurine company.  She trained and learned this form of art with great success.  Then she decided to further study figurative sculpture at the local sculptors guild.

After spending a few years dedicated to the raising of her son, she longed to resume her work in clay and began sculpting lessons with the late A. Wasil.  Her love for sculpting the human form was reignited.  Mr. Wasil taught Cynthia the art and technique of sculpture in both group classes and private mentorship.  She eventually sculpted for him on several of his large bronze commissions in his studio in downtown San Diego.

Despite the medical obstacles Cynthia Stafford has encountered, she has managed to continue to grow and develope her skills in the art of sculpture.  It is her love and passion for the art that propels Cynthia to continue sculpting through the rough days.   It is her hope that the joy of the process is conveyed to those who view her work.
